Das Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden eröffnet im November 2024 die Ausstellung des Künstlers YOSHITOMO NARA
YOSHITOMO NARA

Yoshimoto Nara – MUSEUM FRIEDER BURDA

23.11.2024 – 27.04.2025

The Museum Frieder Burda is proud to present the first major retrospective of world-renowned Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara in Germany—an absolute must-see for art lovers! Born in 1959, Nara achieved international fame with his iconic *Angry Girls*. These stylized depictions of girls, often oscillating between defiance, menace, and melancholy, have become his unique artistic signature.

The exhibition showcases an impressive collection of works spanning four decades, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, and installations. It offers fascinating insights into how Nara’s personal experiences, his childhood marked by loneliness, and influences from music, literature, and art history shaped his distinctive visual language.

In Baden-Baden befindet sich das einzige Museum für so viele Repliken der einzigartigen Künstlerin Frida Kahlo. Das Ehepaar Gerke-Remund machte diese Museum zur Lebensaufgabe.

200 Years Kurhaus

THE PLACE TO BE – 200 years of the Kurhaus Baden-Baden

Special exhibition at the Baden-Baden Stadtmuseum, Lichtentaler Allee.

The Kurhaus Baden-Baden, built in 1824 according to the plans of the renowned architect Friedrich Weinbrenner, is a landmark of the city. The striking classical columned façade gives the building an unmistakable charm and has provided a magnificent backdrop for glamorous balls, concerts, galas and other outstanding events for almost 200 years. Prominent artists have thrilled their audiences here, and heads of state, politicians and diplomats have come and gone.

The Kurhaus is particularly famous for its close association with gambling. In the 19th century, the French tenants of the casino, Jean Jacques Bénazet and his son Édouard, transformed the Kurhaus into an international meeting place. They created the magnificent historicist halls, which are still one of Baden-Baden’s most impressive sights today.

The history of the Kurhaus reflects the eventful European history of the last two centuries and has undergone numerous structural changes that reflect the spirit of the times. Even today, the Kurhaus is a lively place where a colourful and illustrious public meets. It is and remains the social centre of Baden-Baden – ‘the place to be’.

Healing Art. Paths to a Better Life

Until 12 January 2025

The exhibition ‘Healing Art. Paths to a Better Life’ invites you to discover the fascinating connection between art, healing and the pursuit of a healthier life. It sheds light on how artists have sought alternative life models since the late 19th century and used their works to address spiritual, physical and social healing. From ‘prophet artists’ such as Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach to major works by Emma Kunz and Joseph Beuys, the exhibition shows how art can influence healing processes and initiate social change.

Accompanied by a varied educational programme, the show offers exciting insights into the history and relevance of the life reform movements and invites visitors to ask the question: Can art really heal?
