CHRISTKINDELSMARKT
The traditional Christmas market Baden-Baden has always been affectionately called Christkindelsmarkt. It is picturesquely framed by the mountains of the Black Forest on the grounds of the Kurpark. So between the colonnades, in front of the Kurhaus and in the portico of the Trinkhalle. Only a few minutes walk from the hotel at the Sophienpark, about 100 Christmas decorated wooden stalls enchant young and old with delicious smelling food, mulled wine and handicrafts.
The Christmas market at a glance:
- Hand-painted large windows in our Sophienstraße
- Children’s Ferris Wheel and carousel on the Fieser Bridge
- Christmas decorated huts in the spa colonnades and in front of the spa house
- Exclusive Gourmet Igloos
- Winter fairy tales on display boards at the end of the tour
- Ice arena on Augusta Square
WHERE IS THE CHRISTMAS MARKET IN BADEN-BADEN?
If you walk from the Hotel am Sophienpark across Leopoldsplatz in the direction of the colonnades, after about 500m you will see the first wooden huts and a children’s carousel like from the good old days. It’s hard to tear yourself away from the spinning historical figures when happy children’s eyes beam at you.
Only the scent of roasted chestnuts draws you further to the Kurhaus Colonnades, where one of the most beautiful and traditional Christmas markets in Germany begins.

TIME TRAVEL WITH THE CHRISTKINDELSMARKT
Between the old contemplative stores of the 160 year old colonnades stand in the avenue, small pre-Christmas decorated stalls with all kinds of crafts, gifts and treats, which are lined up from there also in front of the large Kurhaus. The center of the Christkindelsmarkt is the concert shell with the beautiful square in front of it, which is surrounded by fine smelling drink stands.
You will only see individual stalls, nothing commercial as you know it from other big Christmas markets. The Christmas backdrop is often atmospherically framed by the snow-covered Black Forest. What makes Baden-Baden special at this time of year is the serenity of the people. In Baden-Baden you can still find the tranquil calm that does so much good during Christmas preparations. And what better way to heighten the anticipation of the most wonderful holiday of the year than with the aroma of roasted almonds and stomach bread?
IS SANTA CLAUS COMING TO BADEN-BADEN?
Santa Claus used to land at the Christmas market in Baden-Baden in a hot air balloon and now travels quite comfortably in a nostalgic motorized carriage. Children look forward to this attraction on December 6 all year round.
Now it’s time to write a wish list so that the Christ Child receives his Christmas mail in time. So that no time is lost, the letterbox of the Himmelspforte is located in the middle of the Christmas market. How convenient!
SCHLEMMERLAND CHRISTKINDELSMARKT
Everyone will get their money’s worth here – you’ll just be spoiled for choice… venison burgers, steak from the beechwood swivel grill, tarte flambée, Steckerlfisch, hand-rubbed potato pancakes, soups, couscous and so on and so forth.
You can enjoy a tour of the most diverse regions and nations. In the process, you will also encounter many typical dishes that have traditionally always got us people through the winter well.
CRIB EXHIBITION IN THE DRINKING HALL
Now when you come to the drinking hall, you will experience a very contemplative atmosphere in the ambulatory. The oversized fir tree illuminates the many handmade nativity scenes in the portico in a very festive way.
Now time seems to stand still for good, the voices of the visitors inevitably lower and many a pair of eyes of excited children seems to sink into the small world behind glass. The legend of the birth of Jesus in a remote manger will probably never lose its magical effect.
HAND PAINTED STAINED GLASS WINDOWS
This year, the beautifully hand painted glass windows are right in front of our hotel along the Sophienstraße and no longer at the Christmas market.
Pupils from Baden-Baden have painted the windows with atmospheric Christmas motifs.
We are delighted that our guests can immerse themselves in the Christmas atmosphere as soon as they step outside the hotel door. Fortunately, the Christkindelsmarkt is only a few steps away.
GOURMET IGLUS
Sitting comfortably with friends and family over a fonduelette and enjoying a very private experience with the beautiful atmosphere of the Christkindelsmarkt is made possible by 11 igloos at the Christmas market.
Right next to the drinking hall you find the transparent domes. A maximum of 8 guests can rent an igloo to be spoiled with delicacies around fondue and raclette. Sheepskins and light accents provide a cozy ambience.
Time slots:
12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m
