What to do in late summer?
There is hardly a more beautiful place to extend the summer than Baden-Baden. The weather remains sunny and warm for a long time, the cultural life starts full speed into the new season, the wine is ripening and the Black Forest invites you to incomparable hikes. For the well-being of body and soul one can draw from the full.
We are especially looking forward to the 9th and 10th of September, since Baden-Baden will show its most interesting sides on the event “Day & Night of the Open Monument” as a world cultural heritage. We will be taking part and will be offering three guided tours on 10 September.

BADEN-BADEN CLASSICS
September 24
At the Baden-Baden Classics you can marvel at more than 40 classic cars in the city center on the so called “open Sunday”, when all stores are open. Already in the 1920-ies the “Baden-Baden Automobile Tournament” took place here. Today it is called the Concour d`élegance.
Back then, sporty gentlemen in knickerbockers, sleek caps and aviator glasses posed with their elegant sports cars in front of the Kurhaus. Of course, they also liked to be photographed in front of our hotel, because here was at least at the Batschari Automobile Tournament the finish of the automobile tournament.
SWR 3 NEW POP FESTIVAL
September 14 – 16
All year long Baden-Baden is looking forward to the New Pop Festival. Many well-known music greats such as Katie Melua or Cat Burns were introduced here as newcomers of pop music and started a steep career. Every year, one of the biggest radio stations proves to have an excellent sense for this.
The short concerts take place in the theater, Kurhaus and Festspielhaus. There is a shuttle to the Festspielhaus. To ensure that everyone can participate in the festival, the concerts will be broadcast on large screens in the Kurpark and on the Fieser Brücke.

THE WORLD OF JOHN NEUMEIER
29.9. – 10.10.2023
Can there be a more beautiful transition into autumn than with John Neumeier’s Hamburg Ballet Ensemble? The dance festival took place for the first time in 2022 and thrilled the audience in different locations.
The festival kicks off on 29.09./30.09./1.10. with DONA VOBIS PACEM with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. On Sept. 30, Neumeier will let the popular Ballet Workshop take the stage and explain his stage pieces and plans with many danced details. The charismatic artist knows how to captivate his fan base with this event, which has long since become a cult. On Sunday you can experience him live in conversation.
On October 7 and 8, Kammerballetten will give a guest performance at the Theater Baden-Baden. Kammerballetten works with the most important international dancers and choreographers and combines the intimacy of classical chamber music with the topicality of modern ballets.
At the Kurhaus on Oct. 3, experience the Bundesjugendballett with “BJB Songbook – What We Call Growing Up.” A colorful dance collage of pop songs of various musical styles by Imogen Heap, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Tracy Chapman and others.
On Oct. 6-7-8, the traditional piece “Sleeping Beauty” by Tchaikovsky in Petipa’s original choreography will pull the story into the present, but retain its detached dreamy style.
8.10. Social Dance Project – the artists go to students and then show their joint work in the Festspielhaus.
9.10. With “Absprung III” John Neumeier presents his ballet school and leads through the evening. An important part of the training: Learning the choreographic tools of the trade. Students will present their work, some of which has already won awards.
WINE, WINEMAKERS & SCENIC HIKES
Autumn is very enjoyable in the Black Forest and the surrounding wine-growing areas while hiking, wine tasting and eating good food. The vineyards of Varnhalt, Neuweier, Umweg and Eisental are directly adjacent to Baden-Baden. The half-timbered houses are picturesquely situated on the sunny slopes, so the drive through the winegrowing villages alone is worthwhile.
Here you can take a relaxed walk along the slopes or climb up to the defiant Yburg. In any case, many very excellent inns with delicious Baden cuisine and the right wines entice you to take a leisurely break. “Ein Viertele schlotzen” is what we say here when you let the typical Riesling, Spät- Weiß- and Grauburgunder run down your throat with pleasure. The wines of the third largest growing region in Germany are on a quality level with Champagne, Alsace and the Loire.

DAY & NIGHT OF OPEN MONUMENTS
September 9/10
Under the motto “Talent Monument,” Open Monument Day 2023 sets the stage for all monument talents. What exactly makes a building a monument? Since 2021, Baden-Baden has been part of the Great Spas of Europe as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An important criterion for this distinction is well-preserved spa architecture.
Our hotel was developed into a grand hotel as Hôtel Holland in 1840 and expanded to about 200 rooms at the end of the 19th century. Thus the hotel was an essential part of the spa town life.
On Sunday, 10.09. we offer a house tour for max. 8 persons at 15:00, 15:40 and 16:20. Please register at e.kaiser@hotel-am-sophienpark.de. The entire program will be published in a few days.
