Construction Diary, Episode 3

The crane rises into the sky, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
This time, we’re telling rooftop stories, offering glimpses into a bygone era of glittering ballroom nights held in elegant salons.

The crane also opens up spectacular new perspectives: onto our historic glass domes, for instance, or the early landscaping work at the entrance of the hotel park. Materials are now being transported silently across the rooftops, so that our guests in the annex remain undisturbed.

And while construction progresses above, we continue to share rooftop stories, evoking memories of a time when grand balls lit up the night in refined surroundings.

Der Bankettsaal im Holland Hotel wurde um 1900 für rauschende Feste genutzt.

Banquet Hall circa 1900

This photograph was taken around 1900, and it takes little imagination to envision the grand ball nights and lavish jubilees once held in the magnificent banquet hall. A towering palm tree adorned the center of the room.

On the ground floor, there was originally a retail store. It wasn’t until 1939 that the owner, Albert Rössler, decided to open a restaurant with an entrance on Sophienstraße.

After World War II, the large grand hotel was divided, and the section of the building housing the banquet hall has since belonged to the Volksbank. When you enter the bank today, you can still see the banquet hall’s stucco ceiling in the main lobby. During renovations, the suspended ceiling was removed, allowing a clear view all the way up.

Above the rooftops

Isn’t it a breathtaking view from up here? We would love to share this experience with you.

To the right, your gaze sweeps across to the New Castle, down to the Stiftskirche, and further to the dome of the venerable Friedrichsbad rising above the rooftops of the Old Town. Beneath the market square by the church lies the Roman origin of Baden-Baden, nestled in the thermal water catchment area. In the background, the rugged rock formations of the Battert rise up.

The view stretches magically across the Rhine plain to the Vosges Mountains. A panorama that gives Baden-Baden a unique sense of vastness. It’s renowned for its enchantingly romantic sunsets.
