Rivaling Reality. Museum Frieder Burda

High-Definition Without a Screen: 60 Years of Photorealism

FEBRUARY 28 – AUGUST 02, 2026

Where absolute precision meets the canvas. We have always been fascinated by the perfect illusion, but in the 20th century, it became a revolution. With over 90 masterpieces, the Museum Frieder Burda brings the elite of American Photorealism (and Hyperrealism) to the heart of the city. What began in the 1960s as a radical response to abstraction has evolved into a breathtaking visual duel with reality.

Experience icons like Richard Estes or Gerhard Richter, alongside works from world-class institutions such as the Whitney Museum in New York. These aren’t just everyday scenes – it is the power of perfection that will leave you breathless. A must-see for anyone wanting to explore the blurred lines between photography and painting.

Blooming Rose Path

Baden-Baden is the city of parks and rose gardens. As May approaches, the air fills with the scent of wildflowers while strolling along the Forest and Rose Trail around beautiful Baden-Baden.

From the Kurhaus, you reach the Trinkhalle with its legendary colonnade. A small path then leads up to Michaelsberg, where the impressive sequoias at Stourdza Chapel await. Be sure to look up at the golden dome!

From there, follow the trail toward Friesenberg Hut, breathing in the fragrance of the ancient forests. Soon, you’ll arrive at the stunning Rose Society Garden on the so called “Beutig” (open mid-April to mid-October; entry: €1). Perched above the villa district of Beutig, the garden is surrounded by ornate houses and beautifully blooming front gardens.

Wander back down through the villa district to the Lichtentaler Allee. If you still have energy, take a detour to the Gönneranlage, the older of the two rose gardens.
